Dark 5 Design

Posted by Nick Dymond under Life in General, Web Design

As you may know, I am trying to break into the professional world of web design, and to do this I need to make myself a portfolio of sites I have done. I thought of getting with a bunch of local bands and seeing if they would like sites done for cheap, and that’s where my buddy Matt McConnell came in. He’s in a band called Downseed and he has been in bands since high school. He has connections with dozens of bands in the area who may be interested in having a web site done up. A lot of bands are content with just having a presence on MySpace, so there’s not such a huge demand for quality web sites for local bands.

So we decided to team up and see what we can do. He’ll hunt down the business and I’ll create the sites. It might not turn out to be much of anything if we can’t get any clients, but at least it’s another lead for me and my portfolio. Matt has been doing business under the name "Dark Five" for years now and he wanted to keep the name and turn it into "Dark 5 Design". I didn’t have a problem with that so there it is.

The first project that we are workin on is the site for his own band. I’ll put it up here when it’s done. YAY.

Mookwalking

Posted by Nick Dymond under Life in General

Ok, this post has little to do with the actual content but rather an experiment using flash video. Yesterday I went Rollerblading with Ryan and during this time I decided to practice my Moonwalking. Ryan took my phone and captured the video and now I will present it here.

If you do not see the video above, then you need the latest version of Flash Player

Rainbow Foto

Posted by Nick Dymond under Life in General, Web Design

Well I’ve finished the project I have been working on for the past few weeks. This has been partly to blame for my lack of updating this here page. It is a photography site for my good friend Glen, called Rainbow Foto. This is the first full site I have created using all of Macromedia Studio 8 including Flash and Fireworks. I designed everything from the ground up. The look and the feel right down to the logo itself.

I’m pretty proud of how it all turned out. I learn a lot every time I work on a new project. Issues come up or opbsacles need to be resolved, and each time this happens I learn for next time. (I guess that’s pretty much how it goes for everything anyone does but I thought I would type it out anyway.) I am putting together a portfolio of sites that I have/will make in order to eventually quit driving a stupid truck and design web sites professionally. I have a number of projects to work on in the future and will post them here upon completion.
